I suppose you won't see this on Tahiti Presse. I just talked to a cousin last eve and he was telling me about a fellow that was severly beaten in downtown
Papeete last week. Not good.

Was he beaten by a group or an individual?
I've seen a few cases where Tahitians get mad and then go home and get their spear gun, which is just insane. I've also seen public beatings of women by men. The flower girl in my fil's wedding was killed by her husband. I think the violence is pretty widespread, it just hasn't been made as socially unacceptable as much as North America, and therefore doesn't get much reporting. IIRC you were there in the 70's which was the same time my father in law was there, he comments that it's really changed since then. |

From what i understand this was pretty bad not just a couple of drunks fighting. This guy was set upon by individuals with the intent to rob and do bodily
harm. That would be like aggravated assault in this country. In the 70's you could have a great vacation just visiting the island of Tahiti and a side
trip to Moorea. Now it's get off Tahiti asap..... What a shame.
